The Cool Science Festival and the Manitou Springs Heritage Museum welcome Dr. Steve Ruskin and his presentation, A ‘Grand Wigwam’ for Science: Palmer Hall and the Scandal that Shook Colorado College”. Colorado College’s Palmer Hall was built to make the school one of the American west’s top scientific research institutions. It had advanced laboratory equipment, lecture facilities, and a large natural history museum. In its early years it was known in Colorado Springs as “the Science Building.” When it opened in 1904, the celebrations lasted three days, and included political and academic guests from around the country. For nearly fifteen years Palmer Hall fulfilled its purpose, until a philandering college president and a world war changed everything.
