SUMMARY:The History of the Pikes Peak Snow Run
DESCRIPTION:The Manitou Springs Heritage Museum is excited to launch a new Winter exhibit on March 14th called The History of the Pikes Peak Snow Run. The Snow Run was a motorcycle race to the top of Pikes Peak on New Year’s Day and was not related to the summer motorcycle racing hosted by the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. \nThis grueling race operated between 1938-1982. Learn about the Snow Run throughout the decades: the Snow Run pioneers in the 1930s and 1940s\, mid-century madness in the 1950s and 1960s and the reckless abandon that came with the 1970s and 1980s. \nThe Snow Run’s advertising poster boldly claimed “Not for the Rose Parade on TV Types!” In its 44-year history\, the Snow Run frightened\, frustrated and froze those brave motorcycle racers who dared this feat of what some say was madness. These are their stories. \nThe History of the Pikes Peak Snow Run exhibit will be showing through June 2026\, so stop by our FREE museum and check it out. The Manitou Springs Heritage Museum is located at 517 Manitou Avenue in Manitou Springs\, CO 80829. For more information\, call 719-685-1454 or send us an email at ManitouHeritage@gmail.com. Our winter hours are Noon-4pm on Sun\, Tue\, Wed\, Fri & Sat or by appointment. \n  \n
